Altus_de_Wet_in_action_at_Creighton.jpgRacing history has been made – Team Altus de Wet Racing has claimed its first national enduro championship points and lots of it! Altus de Wet has made a little bit of enduro racing history by putting his new Sherco 300 SEF-R motorcycle on the podium twice in one weekend! He finished in a close third place in the E2 (Open) Class Championship at both the first and second rounds of the 2015 Liqourland National Enduro Championship that took place this past weekend (7 and 8 March) in the Creighton area in KwaZulu-Natal.

The ‘Liquorland Creighton WFO National Enduro’ was a ‘double-header’ with two rounds of the national series taking place on two consecutive days. De Wet praised the organisers for a great event that consisted of three Special Stages on each day. One of the second day’s stages was a repeat of the previous day while the motocross stage was run in reverse and an all new enduro stage was on the cards.

He could only spend a few hours on the new Sherco before taking on the two national events, but that did not keep the defending national champion from putting his Sherco on the podium  after facing stiff competition that included Wade Young who is currently also competing internationally.

“I am extremely happy with the results,” a smiling De Wet said after the event. “Except for suspension, the Sherco was stock standard and our times were very competitive. We will now look at putting on an exhaust-pipe and do the mapping,” he said knowing that after two of the six events, the first 40 points are on the score board, only four points behind second-placed Scott Bouverie and 10 points behind Young.

“I am very impressed with the handling of the Sherco and how light it is,” he said. “I had to get into racing rhythm after not having raced since the Roof of Africa last year. If this is our first result, I can not wait for the rest of the season and am already looking forward to the KEI Enduro at East London which is one of my favourite races and racing terrain,” he concluded.

Altus de Wet Racing would like to thank all his loyal sponsors and a special word of thanks to his mechanic / technician / do-it-all right-hand man, Shaun Duckham, who made sure everything ran smoothly during the two races.

Altus is now looking forward to trying out the new Sherco 300 SE-R (2-stroke) at a regional Western Cape enduro before the East London event. He is also finalising his planning to go to Europe for a month where he will do some training and participate in the Erzberg Rodeo in Austria (4-7 June).
